Sailing time again ...

Would be nice ..., I've been thinking this past Sunday. Since we set off in late April in Hamburg and Anfang Mai in Kopperby are arrived, has the boat moved a meter. We had to do quite well with the handicrafts. Then an opportunity came this afternoon, very pretty: Our publishing (Delius Klasing) is owned by the first Schwertzugvogels, ever built. Before 51 Years, won the designer of a serious Lehfeld my employer advertised design competition for an inexpensive dinghy hiking, could be produced in-house work. The first sword was migratory 1960 built. Today we have “G1” now are rigged and the piece of the crane to the berth at the Hamburg Alster sailing. A wonderful boat. Has been several years since, I'm finally sailed on a dinghy.

I've always been fascinated Schwertzugvögel, since my namesake Wilfried Erdmann 1990, Shortly after the Wall came down, one summer on a boat like the Mecklenburg- Vorpommern and coasts- and has traveled inland waters. Ten years later, he sailed the seas again and so has the two great books “My boundless seascape” and “A German sailing summer” the change of time held.

Again it is a long weekend, But unfortunately I'm only on Monday so right on the boat. Sunday afternoon I think my presentation “Solo across the Atlantic” in the Hanover's Sailing Club Steinhuder sea and therefore go tomorrow after work for a family to Wolfsburg Saturday to my parents. I'm looking forward to it very much.

One of the major projects at the next boot will be an additional auxiliary rudder, to which the Windpilot is directed and by which he steers the boat. Then we will finally be tax-free 🙂 The rudder should be catchable, so it does not interfere with port maneuvers. I have received today from the manufacturer Windpilot a picture of a system, this should work pretty well. Now I have to rebuild it only in our boat size. During the shipbuilding studies I have learned a few years time CAD drawing. Earlier, I will get a 30-day evaluation version of TurboCAD downloaded for the Mac. Let's see, whether the plan can be visualized in my head so. The idea is so simple, as brilliant: At the rear are already two rowlocks. There is simply pushed through an axis, is attached to the rudder an additional. Then it is catching on the axis- or lowered. At the same time I did it a second, independent rowing as a backup. When motoring or sailing by hand, we take the auxiliary rudder out of the water, - But to the windvane to do their duty, is the rudder into the water and found the main rudder.

Finally, I also got a photo of a sister ship. Der-Royal Cape Yacht Club (whose symbol is still at the rear of the “Gipsy Girl” stick) I was the owner of a “Oceanbound 39” mediated. This is the same hull, with a different cover. It is amazing, that the “Monkfish” almost looks like, like a stretched Contest 33 – Our last ship. Not so surprisingly, however,, if one knows, that the designer “Poppy” Bongers was the ship the Flying Dutchman inspired by his son, at that time the champion in this class was. The Flying Dutchman was again designed by Uus van Essen - who also designed the contest 33 is. This closes the circle.

Last week I detailed the way the issue, have the effect of certain books to us, busy. In addition I have interviewed most of the sailing celebrities, what they have read the most and by what books they were most influenced. An interesting story, to it in YACHT 14/2011 (from 22. Am June Kiosk) You can read.

I was a bit disappointed, me today that someone a really good and very, Then we will finally be tax-free 🙂 The rudder should be catchable … So cheap we do not get the well back. But surely there is some point another. Therefore this site has now made it into the top 99 of the sailing sides made! In any case in which, who have registered on this site. The amazing thing is, that run counter to the other side since December, But even our less than two months. Glad, that all of you so often over looks! 🙂
