Bermuda. Eine Perle im Atlantik

Dear Readers,

Once we were even able to fly our parasailor 36 Leave for hours at a time. The Etmales were not worthy of any prizes, because lulls kept slowing us down. But we still have just over 800 Nautical miles here approximately 6 days done.

Arriving here was great. Against 17.30 We walked into the natural bay in front of St. George's and docked at the customs dock. The formalities were quickly completed and we were able to get to the anchorage. There are some densely packed areas here 35 Yachts in front of the place and there are around every day 10 more, because the ARC fleet is gradually arriving here. At the 15. Do you want to start from here to Horta?, That's why it's almost time, that we sail on. Because most of them 50 and ships that are more feet long will definitely be a little faster than us and will once again occupy half the harbor in Horta. So we have to hurry up, to secure a place for us.

We spent the last three days here doing small errands and sightseeing. Luckily there wasn't really much to repair. Only our waste water tank in the starboard hull had to be removed and cleaned. Over the years, a lot of urine stone forms in it, which keeps falling in front of the outlet in rough seas. I'll spare you the details... But now it's like new and it should be quiet for the next few years 😉 But it was a pretty disgusting task, which lasted half a day. Afterwards we went to the pub to “detox” and sipped two ales.

After the barren Bahamas, the amount of green here on the island is a great contrast. Britain's past can still be seen everywhere. Not just on left-hand traffic, also in the kitchen (Fish & Chips …) and architecture. The price level is a little higher than in the Bahamas. The shopping list for this morning includes kitchen towels. We compared prices yesterday. The cheapest offer: 6 Roles for 17 Dollar. A beer in the pub costs with a tip 11 Dollar. Well, that we are only here for three days and now finally, finally come back to Europe, at the cheaper prices. After many years abroad, we really appreciate it, how cheap supermarkets are in Europe. Especially in Germany and Portugal.

Yesterday the laundry was on the agenda, Just fill up today (1,92 Dollar pro Liter), stocking up on fresh food and then checking out at customs and immigration. And then we set our course for the Azores. 1800 nautical miles in the east. The weather for the crossing looks really good. No major lows approaching. Routing via our weather software (Predictwind) even just says 11 Days ahead for the crossing. There may be more, because we sail the ship rather carefully, because we don't want to risk any breakage on the long journey home. But even with 13 After a few days of crossing we should arrive in the Azores with a few days of play, before Cati lands there. She has spent the last two weeks in Germany, completed a little medical marathon and told me great news via satellite: Our child is growing and thriving, He's already kicking and punching around in his stomach and we could even see his face on the ultrasound pictures, like a black and white photo. Madness, everything that is possible today. And now we know too: It's going to be a boy. 🙂

There are still about 4000 nautical miles ahead of me, until I arrive in Hamburg. I can not wait. Things continue this afternoon. You can us again (near the coast) on Marinetraffic and then later on the satellite tracker.

Greetings from Bermuda!

John
