Back in Lisbon

Dear Readers,

the day after four months stands at an anniversary: Then there is exactly five years ago, I am broken up with Maverick from Wolfsburg. Madness, as time goes by …

The first stage consisted of 2.800 Highway miles, which I have written down together with my parents in a chartered jeep and by boat on the trailer back. In Lisbon, there was still a lot to do – The boat was a kit – before then at 5. November 2005 Cast off the fly. Out on the great Atlantic, 550 Nautical miles to Madeira.

Last weekend, I now have a job and brought back to Lisbon by the way I've found a couple of hours, to walk on old roads. It was just great. I've rediscovered so many things, I had long forgotten. Also, many emotions were reawakened. Feelings of time: alone at the other end of Europe to be with such a large task, and a small boat … And so uncertain, what I would expect out there.

It was a wonderful trip. Back to the place, where it all began.

As I sat on “Doca de Alcantara” wandering along, I did not believe my eyes to … Was in a box which “flow”, The boat of my friends Anne and Marcus. The two have sailed across the Atlantic three years ago to Colombia – Marcus has now taken and the boat single handed back to Europe. A great trip! Damage, I've just missed it by three days.

Here are a few photos …

“Doca de Alcantara”, photographed through the fence – my berth is even free!

For comparison: Maverick in October 2005

At the time I'm with Maverick hinaufgetuckert the Tagus, to berth in “Doca de Alcantara”.

Before the boat was but a few miles down the river in “Doca de Belem” to water.

Funny bicycle. I remember, I was then ten days of rainy weather. Probably a practical matter!

In between, a small stop next to the marina. And I like to Portugal: Pepsi, Cake and an espresso (a poem!), all together 3,10 Euro.

On the way back, I look again briefly at the “flow” past. Beautiful boat. I think, I do not know a fiberglass boat, The confidence-inspiring look. A real ship.

Finally a photo from the City: In this internet cafe I wrote the first report on the move. That was still pretty complicated, previously on board with tap and upload via USB flash drive on their computer. Today, thanks to iPhone, Wireless hotspot, and Co all so much simpler. Too simple, I think sometimes. I have written at least prefer Postcards.
